Egg goes bye-bye..

July 16th, 2009

Well since Lotus’ egg wasn’t fertile, but we didn’t want her to keep laying more, we let her nest with it for the approximate incubation period for Macaws (between 25-28 days). So, last weekend we removed the egg… Lotus seemed okay with that. I guess she was over the whole mother going nowhere bit! She’s now back to her normal self- screaming, talking, chewing up things and overall craziness. (’Kinda wish she still had her egg- she was quiet then).

My Bird layed an EGG!!!!

June 24th, 2009

For those of you who don’t know my bird, Lotus, she is a 20 year-old Green-winged Macaw. She has lived with us for 18 years and this year decided to nest. On June 13th, she layed her first egg ever. Granted, she doesn’t have a mate (unless you count that she thinks I’m her mate) so her egg isn’t fertile, but it still seemed like a big event in our family.
Lotus’ egg is about the size of a medium chicken egg and is white. Green-winged macaw incubation period is about 25 days, so when it doesn’t hatch around that time, she should abandon it (hopefully sh’e read the book on that one).
Just thought you may want to know!

Weekend in Savannah

June 18th, 2009

Hi, it’s Debbie and I’m taking this ride over!

Glenn (my husband), Cami (our pekingese) and I traveled to Savannah, GA this past weekend for my niece’s high school graduation.
This was Cami’s first road-trip and I have to say we were both a little nervous about it. We were staying at the Hilton DeSoto in the historic district (on Liberty Street for those of you familiar with Savannah), which is a very nice hotel that recently went pet-friendly. That area is truly spectacular if you are at all a history buff.
Anyway, the little dog had a great time- how much fun is it to walk in a beautiful oak shaded park every morning and go sightseeing and shopping in the afternoon??? Savannah is VERY dog-friendly!!
Many shops as well as cafes allow dog patrons, as long as they are properly dressed and mannered.

Navy is the new black this season, so for this trip Cami donned her navy/white “skipper” puppia to match my navy outfits for our time on the town. She was so cute- she got lots of attention from people, as well as meeting many other canine visitors- Sophia & Beau (King Charles Spaniels), George (Poodle Mix), Megan (German Shorthaired Pointer), Maggie (Min. Schnauzer) and 2 Australian Shepherds.
We even shared pork chops from the Pirate’s House, a famous Savannah restaurant (Cami thought they were the yummiest ever- I have to agree!).

Anyway, the trip went well. I am sure it is the first of many for Cami, I’ll keep you guys posted.

Dyson

June 18th, 2009

I am formally introducing my new adoptee, Dyson. He was running in the street during a storm and had no identification. Despite postings, no one claimed him. So, being a sucker for big brown eyes, he’s mine now. Thank God a calf wasn’t loose in the street. :) Boy is he cute! He loves my german shepherd, Bizbe, and they play hard. He’s a crazy dufus of a boy and he eats dirt. Not just little tastings, but all-you-can-eat dirt. Hence his name, Dyson.

Hello world!

June 18th, 2009

Welcome to our new blog. On this site, we will keep you up-to-date on the behind the scenes fun we have at Animal Diagnostic & Wellness Center. Debbie and her diva dog, Cami, will discuss what the most fashionable of dogs are wearing this year; as well as tackling more serious topics. If you feel the urge to comment, please do so. The more the merrier.
